Background: https://rwby.fandom.com/wiki/Jaune_Arc

Personality:

Jaune Arc, as he began on screen, was an “audience identification” character - a somewhat clueless, cheerful, good-hearted person who was outclassed by everyone around him, but still had a strong moral center and the desire to rise above himself that both helped the viewers see themselves in him, and presented a more realistic look at what a certain type of open-hearted, determined shonen hero would look like in a world of people who are immensely talented in ways Jaune is not. As the storyline has developed and the themes of the show have trended towards depictions of how people deal with trauma, grief, stress, and loss, Jaune has grown from one of the weakest characters on the show to one of its emotional centers - he’s still not the hero of the story, but he’s the support who enables and encourages the heroes to keep going.

Perhaps more than anything else, Jaune is reliable. Though he is not always honest (more on that later), he is determined and possesses a strong sense of integrity - Jaune will always follow through with what he says he will do. As a boy, he determined to be a Hunter, despite a lack of training - this lead to him falsifying his transcript when he applied to Beacon. Obviously, not the brightest idea given the risks of a Hunter’s life, but solid evidence of his determination. Likewise, when he was blackmailed by Cardin, another student who threatened to reveal him as a phony, he tirelessly did everything asked of him, at great cost to his studies and social life… until Cardin threatened his team, and found a line Jaune wouldn’t cross. Jaune saved Cardin’s life from a marauding Ursa in the fight which followed, despite having every reason to resent Cardin and how easy it would have been to leave Cardin to save himself (or, more likely, fail to save himself). That moral integrity despite personal cost, even when it’s really stupid, is the solid through-line of Jaune’s behavior.

The flipside of that reliability and integrity is that Jaune is stubborn. He’ll persist without a deep analysis of whether or not persisting is the smart thing or the correct approach, as visible above. It takes being smacked over the head by a big clue-by-four to teach him that he’s following the wrong path (such as: pursuing Weiss romantically, despite her lack of interest; putting Pyrrha on a pedestal and assuming she’s popular and perfect; having an argument over terminology with his team in the middle of a fight).

That said, once Jaune’s been shown he’s going about things wrong, he is strategic. His mediocre (at best) combat abilities make him a good planner - he has to fight smarter, because he can’t fight harder. He plans contingencies, drills with discipline, develops tactics that he shares with his team - his stubbornness may make him oblivious, but it also keeps him trying until he fids the correct approach. He’s not at all a typical “mastermind” character, but falls into the tactician role in every team he serves on, often being the methodical lieutenant to a more inspiring leader.

Being able to analyze situations so well, however, makes Jaune very often hesitant. He’s very conscious of the fact that he’s surrounded by people more gifted and capable than him, which leads to a reluctance to speak out or put himself forward, a low sense of self-worth, and a feeling of guilt about his inability to save Pyrrha (despite the fact that Ruby, the most gifted of his classmates apart from Pyrrha herself, was also unable to save her). Jaune does not consider himself important or a high priority.

Jaune is also tremendously loyal. Besides the above examples of reliability and his determination to put his team before himself, when Ruby’s team fractures between seasons three and four, Jaune agrees to help her on her mission, literally crossing the world with her, and often defers leadership decisions to her, even though she’s technically a member of his team. He explicitly discusses staying loyal to Ruby’s mission as a means of being loyal to Pyrrha’s memory; stands up for his friends on numerous occasions even when he disagrees with them or is angry at them, and refuses to abandon their mission even when circumstances reveal it may be hopeless, according to one interpretation of an omniscient being’s pronouncement. One reason I am taking Jaune from season seven rather than season eight of RWBY is because season eight has tested his loyalty in ways that have not yet resolved, and it’s not clear what the fallout of that situation will be for his character development.

Jaune’s loyalty often makes him naive. He’s quick to extend trust and goodwill, and stubborn about giving up on a person or cause even when there’s evidence he’s being manipulated. When he feels he’s been betrayed, his reaction is almost always shock, and then anger, when more worldly characters face up to the same betrayal with cynical resolve. Jaune’s too open-hearted for that.

Between his integrity, determination, and gullibility, Jaune is very straightforward. While he’s a complex character dealing with a tangle of emotions as nuanced as anyone else, he wears his triumphs and disappointments on his sleeve. He may not always have been honest, but he’s always painfully earnest.

Both physically and socially, Jaune can be clumsy. His trusting nature and straightforwardness make him heavy-handed and a little clueless in the face of subtle social cues. Underlying that clumsiness and stubbornness, however, Jaune is bold - while he may be reluctant to trust his own decisions or to speak up, he’s reckless when it comes to leaping into the action, putting himself out there again, even though he’s dismayed about his failures. And with his low self-esteem and self-regard, Jaune’s frequently self-deprecating, aware that he may be the butt of someone’s joke and able to show a sense of humor about that - although, not without an edge of bitterness.

Finally, with his strong sense of values and his regular follow-through, Jaune is always well-meaning, hopeful and determined to help. Many of his negative traits - naivete, clumsiness, stubbornness - would rapidly grow annoying if he wasn’t also generous, compassionate, willing to admit his mistakes and learn, and devoted to improving himself and protecting others.

Jaune is also grieving. The loss of his school is disorienting, but nothing compared to the loss of Pyrrha. Before Pyrrha’s death, Jaune was mostly a heartwarming comic relief character. Since her death, he’s been driven, gaining a depth and reserve he never before possessed, grappling with his sense of loss and his doubt that someone like him can make a difference where she did not. It’s difficult to point to any character moment since her death that isn’t directly and obviously shaped by it, and so it’s difficult to choose examples to summarize from. Of all the main cast, Jaune had the least trauma before the fall of Beacon, and so had the least practice dealing with those emotions, and is one of the most changed characters as a result. All the rest of the cast is also driven by trauma - but theirs stretch back further, into their childhoods, whereas his family experiences were charmingly domestic, the worst he can say being that he was overlooked.

By season seven, discipline and constant effort have made Jaune a strong support character, unlocking powers that help him magnify the talents of his more conspicuously gifted friends. And while early on, Jaune might have felt resentment over possessing a power that sidelined him and made him a sidekick to someone else’s achievements, the Jaune of seasons five through seven has grown enough to feel joy and relief at having any role which allows him to assist and protect his teammates. All that determination is now focused on never losing anyone else - and that hopefulness is tempered by the doubt he feels, knowing that nothing can guarantee that kind of safety.

Powers:

AURA
Like all Hunters and Huntresses from Remnant, Jaune can surround himself with his Aura, a manifestation of the soul which uses the energy of the person's life force to create a protective field around them. Effectively, an Aura user is protected from injury from all sources until exhausted. While Aura protects against energy and magical attacks, damage from falling, and gunfire, it does not protect against attacks which do not directly damage, such as emotional manipulation, paralysis, or various "status effects".

Jaune is said to have an unusually strong Aura, both in terms of how much damage it can absorb before collapsing, and how strongly it reacts to being hit - on occasion, people who have struck Jaune seem to have experienced pain or shock from a backlash.

SEMBLANCE
Semblance is an expression of personality, powered by Aura. Jaune's Semblance is Aura Amp, which allows him to supercharge the Semblance or Aura of others. If they are wounded and their Aura is depleted, the Amp gives their body enough energy to heal itself at an accelerated rate. If they possess or use a Semblance, the Amp will increase its area, duration, and magnitude/effect as applicable (as Semblances are very personal expressions of power, the precise effect varies).

I would ask that Jaune be able to use Aura Amp on characters from other canons who do not explicitly have "Aura," both because of the possible uses of the power in kink play, and because it's very expressive of Jaune's nature as a "support character," so to speak. This would be limited to healing, or enhancing powers that come directly from a person's life force or personality - so, for example, it might magnify a mutant's power, which is a natural biological part of them; but would probably not enhance a spell cast by a magic-using character.

COMBAT TRAINING
Jaune is a competent and athletic warrior with sword and shield. While he's come a long way since the beginning of the show, however, he's still one of the weakest combatants at his "level" shown in the series. Jaune's a defensive fighter, able to keep himself safe while he analyzes his enemy, and he's an excellent tactician, thinking laterally and devising tricks to give himself and his allies an advantage, but in a straight one-on-one fight against any fighter whose skill is acclaimed in their canon, he'll be stalling and trying to summon help or run out the clock.

Inventory:
Crocea Mors ( his sword and shield, which interlock - the shield collapses into a sheath. They are generally considered one item, but if the mods count them as two, that is fine),
Armor (a collapsible cuirass that can be worn over street clothes or compactly stored)
Disc Grenade (this grenade, when fed with Dust ammunition, can project a shield bubble),
Scroll (a mobile communications device similar but superior to a smartphone),
Hard-light Dust cartridge
Gravity Dust cartridge
